What's happening on the farm right now?

Greetings to all! Thanks to everyone who purchased produce and flowers from us in 2022! We’re gearing up for another great season in 2023, our 27th!
|
All our seeds are ordered and arriving daily and we are working on getting our crew set for the season. We have Sam back for his 5th year with us and Michael & Scott will be back working part-time. We’ve excited to have hired Tay, who has farmed in Celo, California, and in New York before joining us. We still hoping to find 2 more full time people to fill out the crew.

Winters in WNC are always unpredictable, with wild swings in temperature. Hopefully we’ve made it through the worst of it with those extremely cold nights back around the Holidays. The onions took a big hit but everything else looks like it made it through.

Other news: CSA market share and flower shares for the 2023 season are now available, with a new twist!

As some of you may have noticed we are little late for opening up sign ups for our CSA this year. We are making a shift away from the website-based wallet system we have had for keeping track of market share credit to a "gift card" based system. It is taking some time to set up. CSA members will be issued physical cards pre-loaded with their CSA credit balance. (Left over credit from 2022 will be put on the cards as well when you sign up.) These cards can then be used online for your custom orders or at our stand at the North Asheville and RAD Farmers Market. Hopefully this will make it easier for us all to keep track of balances and get rid of some of the kinks we have had with our previous system. Unfortunately, to make our online store compatible with the card, we need to make some major changes. With luck and some hours in front of the computer, we should have the whole store up and going for the April 1 opening of the North Asheville Tailgate Market. Right now, just the CSA shares are available for purchase. Feel free to email us with any questions.

For those of you who would like to pre-order starts like we've done the past two years, we'll keep you posted. Figuring out how to configure a new store is a big learning curve for me! Hopefully we'll have more to say about that next week.

The flowers are looking great in the lower high tunnel. I'm looking forward to abundant blooms in April.
