News from the Farm – September 21, 2013

Important News:

There are 3 weeks left in the CSA this season! The last box will be delivered on Oct. 12th. We really are sowing the very last few things outside this morning! The last turnips, arugula, & radishes are in the ground! It seems unbelievable. Each day I see the leaves changing and think it is happening; once again, fall is coming and not too far from now, all those leaves will be down and the trees bare. We’ve sown most of the winter cover crop seed. The strawberry plants arrived yesterday and will be planted next week, along with over-wintering flowers. After that we’ll plant onions and garlic in early October. We’re still keeping very busy, but more things are getting crossed off the to so than are getting added to it. The relentless pace of summer is slowing.

To celebrate, we are having our CSA FARM PARTY! We’re planning on having our potluck farm get together on Sunday, October 6th. From 3-7pm we’d love for everyone to come out and see the farm, enjoy the scenery, meet us in a more relaxed atmosphere, and perhaps go for a swim (depending on the weather and personal bravery). We’ll provide hot dogs & burgers, veggie burgers & tofu corn-dogs and drinks, please bring a side dish or a dessert. Lawn chairs are recommended.

And for those of you who want more great produce, we are offering CSA Extension. The CSA extension will last 6 weeks and go up until the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The pick up will be SATURDAYS ONLY at the North Asheville Tailgate Market at UNCA 8am-Noon, since the Wednesday market ends the first week of November, Look for more details on that in a separate email soon.
